The Great American Cleanup

A Community That Shows Up

This past Saturday, something pretty special happened in Altus. More than 50 volunteers showed up early, ready to roll up their sleeves and spend the morning making our community a little cleaner, a little brighter, and a little more welcoming for everyone.

Our organization is often known for the events we host throughout the year, but days like this remind us, and hopefully our community, that we are about so much more than event planning. As a proud member of Main Street America and Main Street Oklahoma, our mission is rooted in community development, preservation, and pride in the places we call home. Hosting the Great American Cleanup is one of the many ways we put that mission into action.

This year’s cleanup was made possible through a partnership with Keep Oklahoma Beautiful, the City of Altus, and the Altus Chamber of Commerce. Together, we gathered volunteers from across the community: families, girl scouts, AHS ag students, NHS members, teachers, local leaders, business owners, and neighbors, who all share a common goal: keeping Altus a place we’re proud of.

Armed with gloves, bags, and plenty of determination, volunteers spread out across town picking up litter, tidying up spaces, and making an immediate impact you could see by the end of the morning. It’s amazing what can happen when a community decides to show up together.

But the impact goes beyond cleaner streets. Efforts like the Great American Cleanup help strengthen the connections between people, organizations, and local businesses. They remind us that community pride isn’t just something we talk about, it’s something we actively build together.

We are incredibly grateful to every volunteer who gave their time, as well as to our partners who helped make the day possible. Your willingness to serve and invest in our community is what keeps Altus moving forward.

As you look through the photos from the day, we hope you see more than just people picking up trash. We hope you see neighbors helping neighbors, organizations working together, and a community that truly cares about where it lives.
