Steps, Snacks & Smiles: Our Day at the Walk the Block Party

Smiles as bright as the sunshine ☀️💜

On August 9, 2025, our very own Sheree Douglas, Executive Director of the Chamber, and Crystal Matthews, Community Engagement Coordinator for the City of Brownsville, took a little road trip to support their good friend Amy Gammel in Halls, TN for the Walk the Block Party for Alzheimer’s.
The event kicked off with a community walk, where neighbors strolled side by side in honor of loved ones, raising awareness and showing support for families impacted by Alzheimer’s. There’s something special about walking together down familiar streets with new friends — laughter, conversations, and a true sense of togetherness filled the air.

The walk filled our hearts — and sparked ideas for our own streets

Of course, no block party is complete without food, and the food trucks did not disappoint! From savory bites to sweet treats, everyone found something to love (and maybe went back for seconds…or thirds).

But the best part? New friendships. Whether it was chatting with vendors, swapping stories with fellow walkers, or just enjoying a meal on the curb together, the sense of connection was everywhere.

Drive by to see that the Chamber supports the cause with flowers too!

We came back with full hearts (and full stomachs!) and lots of ideas for how Brownsville might bring something like this to life in our own community. Stay tuned — you just might be seeing a Walk the Block Party closer to home soon! Days like this remind us that West Tennessee fun multiplies when we share it across communities.
