EDC Investor Breakfast Highlights: JCCC Shares Strategic Vision for Growth

The De Soto Chamber and Economic Development Council recently hosted a well-attended EDC Investor Breakfast at the Olathe Health Education Center, bringing together investors and community leaders for meaningful conversation, networking, and insight into the future of education and workforce development in our region.

This month’s program featured Dr. Tony Miksa, the new President of Johnson County Community College, along with Rachel Lierz, Executive Vice President of Finance & Administrative Services. Together, they presented an overview of JCCC’s Strategic Plan and their new Facilities Master Plan—both focused on positioning the college to meet growing community needs and supporting the region’s evolving workforce.

Dr. Miksa and Ms. Lierz shared several compelling updates, reinforcing JCCC’s commitment to expanding access, strengthening partnerships, and creating more seamless pathways from education to careers. Among the exciting highlights:

• 523 students from the De Soto USD 232 School District (De Soto High School & Mill Valley High School) are currently enrolled in JCCC Early College Programs, earning college credit while still in high school.

• 490 De Soto students are enrolled in JCCC credit classes, demonstrating the strong local demand and growing connection between the district and the college.

• The new Facilities Master Plan reflects major improvements designed to enhance learning environments, expand program capacity, and support future regional growth.

The event brought together individuals to network, share updates from their own organizations, and foster collaboration across the community. It was a great reminder of the strong partnerships and collective energy that make our business and education community thrive.
