What does the Blairstown Enhancement Committee Do?
Who Are We?
When you hear the name Blairstown Enhancement Committee, you might think of community events, downtown decorations, or the beautiful flower planters around town. And while those are certainly part of what we do, the heart of the BEC is something much bigger: building connections and investing in the community we call home.
We are a group of local residents and community members who believe that Blairstown is at its best when we work together. And perhaps most importantly, we are all volunteers. Every event, project, meeting, social media post, cleanup, and community initiative is made possible by people who choose to give their time and talents to make Blairstown a little better.
Creating Community Through Free Events
One of the most visible ways the Blairstown Enhancement Committee connects with our community is through the free events we organize throughout the year. From celebrating the holiday season to welcoming the warmer months, our calendar is filled with opportunities for neighbors, families, businesses, and visitors to come together.
Our events include community favorites like Jingle on Main and Jingle Eve, which bring holiday cheer to downtown Blairstown; the Blairstown Fall Festival, where local vendors, organizations, performers, and families come together for a day of fun; and the Blairstown Fishing Derby, which gets families outdoors and enjoying one of our community's natural resources.
Those are just a few of the events that the BEC helps make happen.
We believe that community events should be accessible to everyone. That's why so many of the experiences we help create are free to attend. You shouldn't need to spend money to participate in your community, meet your neighbors, or make memories with your family.
Our events give people a reason to leave the house, come downtown, explore what Blairstown has to offer, and spend time with the people who make this community special. They create opportunities for local businesses and organizations to be seen, for volunteers to get involved, and for residents of all ages to feel like they have a place in the life of our community.
Making Blairstown a Little More Beautiful
Enhancement is right there in our name, and beautification is an important part of our work.
The BEC works to help make public spaces throughout Blairstown welcoming, attractive, and cared for. We are proud to collaborate with community partners, including Blair Academy and the North Warren Garden Club, to maintain and enhance areas around town.
Planting flowers, caring for public spaces, adding seasonal decorations, or helping maintain areas that residents and visitors enjoy may seem like small efforts, but together they make a meaningful difference.
Beautification sends the message that this community cares about where we live, and when we work alongside other organizations and community members, we can accomplish far more than any one group could do alone.
Supporting Blairstown's Business Community
Our local businesses are an essential part of what makes Blairstown unique.
That's why the BEC created the Blairstown Regional Business Network, or BRBN.
BRBN provides an opportunity for local businesses, organizations, and community leaders to connect with one another, share information, build relationships, and support the people who are investing in our community.
A thriving business community benefits everyone. When local businesses know one another, collaborate, and encourage residents to shop and support locally, those connections help strengthen the entire community.
BRBN is about creating those connections, because sometimes the most valuable thing we can do is simply get people in the same room.
Investing in the Next Generation
Building a stronger community means investing in the people who will shape its future. That’s why BEC is proud to offer two $1,000 scholarships to North Warren Regional High School students who demonstrate a commitment to community service, with support from Siddhachalam Jain Ashram.
These scholarships are about recognizing young people who give back and encouraging them to continue making a difference wherever their future takes them.
When we invest in our community’s young people, we invest in Blairstown’s future.
We Bring People Together
BEC is powered by volunteers who care deeply about Blairstown and believe that positive change doesn't always have to start with a big organization or a big budget. Sometimes it starts with a few neighbors saying, "We could make this better."
That's what the Blairstown Enhancement Committee does.
