Mesquite Bread Making Workshop | Taste the Traditions of the Desert
Discover how one of the desert’s most familiar trees can become food during a hands-on Mesquite Bread Making Workshop at the Colorado River Historical Society Museum.
Long before modern kitchens and grocery stores, Indigenous peoples of the Southwest harvested mesquite pods as an important desert food source. At this unique workshop, you’ll explore the history and uses of mesquite while experiencing the process for yourself.
Participants will grind fresh mesquite beans into flour by hand, mix the flour with water to create dough, then make and cook their own flatbread. Best of all, you’ll get to taste the bread you make.
It’s a chance to experience the desert in an entirely different way and discover how the plants growing across our landscape have been used for food for generations.
The workshop takes place at the Colorado River Historical Society Museum inside Community Park in Bullhead City.
Cost is $10 per participant and space is limited.
