Adventure Awaits: Bullhead City's Best Trails

When the desert meets the Colorado River, you get trails that feel effortless and unforgettable. Bullhead City is packed with paths that roll past river beaches, parks, memorials, and wide-open views. It is the kind of place where a morning stroll can turn into a full day of exploring without ever losing sight of the water.

The star of the scene is the Colorado River Heritage Greenway Trail System. Bullhead City's adopted Heritage Trail Plan includes approximately 30 miles of trails, ranging from paved multi-use paths to more desert routes. You can hop on at Rotary Park, Veterans Memorial Park, the Colorado River Nature Center, Davis Camp, and Gary Keith Civic Center Park. Many sections are paved and friendly for families and wheels, while others offer a natural surface for a little more desert under your shoes. Benches and ramadas appear right where you want a break, and the river breeze does the rest.

Colorado River Nature Center and Wildlife Area

At the south end of Bullhead City, the Colorado River Nature Center feels like a different side of the desert.

The 500-acre natural area has eight trails winding through desert, wetlands and Colorado River habitat. If you're looking for an easy place to start, try the paved educational trail around the backwater ponds. Wildlife signs add a little education along the way, with benches and a shaded ramada when you're ready for a break.

Keep your eyes open. Bobcats, coyotes, beavers, bald eagles, peregrine falcons and plenty of other wildlife have been spotted in the area. Head up to the observation platform for a bird's-eye view of the ponds, river and desert landscape, or take a look through the viewing binoculars across the Colorado River.

The Nature Center is open daily from sunrise to sunset. Bring water, keep dogs leashed, watch for desert wildlife and leave this beautiful place just as you found it.
