Not Ready for Summer to End? Head to Bullhead City
There’s a moment when you’re packing the kids up for school when you think, How did summer go by that fast?
The backpacks are out. The alarm clocks are set. Maybe you’ve already shoved the floats and water toys into the back of the garage and whispered, “Until we meet again next year, my friend.”
Not so fast.

One More River Day
Pull those floats back out.
September is still river season in Bullhead City, and as the weekends begin to quiet down, there’s a little more room to settle into your spot along the Colorado River.
Bring the boat or jet skis. Launch a kayak or paddleboard. Or keep it simple: pack a cooler, grab the floats and spend the day at one of Bullhead City’s river beaches.
You don't need a complicated itinerary. Sometimes a swimsuit, a stretch of sand and cool Colorado River water are enough.

Trade the River for the Lake
Just down the road, Lake Mohave gives you a completely different way to spend the day.
Drive out to North or South Telephone Cove, where you can pull up near the water and settle in for the day. Or follow the Lake Mohave Trail to Stopsign Cove, where you'll find shoreline access, fishing piers and plenty of desert scenery along the way.
Bring the kayaks. Find a cove. Slow down for a while.

Take a Route 66 Detour
You came for the water, but one of the best parts of a Bullhead City getaway is how much you can explore without spending half your weekend in the car.
Take a break from the river and head into the Black Mountains toward Oatman, an old gold-mining town along historic Route 66.
Walk the wooden sidewalks, catch a Wild West gunfight and keep an eye out for the town's most famous residents: the wild burros that mosey right down the street.
It's a pretty good way to spend a morning before heading back to Bullhead City and jumping in the river.

Stay for Another Sunset
Don't rush home yet.
As the heat of the day starts to ease, head back toward the river. The late summer clouds can turn an ordinary desert sunset into a showstopper.
Walk or bike along the Colorado River Heritage Greenway Trail at Rotary Park, find a spot near the water, or simply sit for a while and watch the last light disappear behind the mountains.
No schedule. No rushing to the next stop.
Just one more summer evening.
Make a Weekend of It
Before you pack the cooler, check what's happening around town and plan your weekend around a few extras.
Take advantage of summer golf specials at Chaparral Golf Course, cool off during a free swim day or stick around for a Dive-In Movie at the city pool. And soccer season is back at Mohave College, where you can head to Firebird Field and cheer on the defending conference champions.
