DTOT is a recognized Maine Street Affiliate through the Maine Downtown Center. Our efforts to redevelop our Downtown are focused on Economic Vitality, Design, Promotion, and Organization. These four elements align with the Main Street Approach. We are a team made up of residents, businesses, elected officials, and staff who are working together to make DTOT the place to visit, live, work, or play!

Redevelopment of our Downtown has been a common theme over the last several decades. As a City along the banks of the Penobscot River with a heavy reliance on the pulp and paper industry, our Downtown was always the hart of the community. With the recent decline of the pulp industry it was important to redevelop our downtown. In 2017, Old Town became one of Maine's Forest Opportunity Roadmap (FOR/ME) communities. With assistance from the Maine Development Foundation, Old Town formed a committee of individuals with a goal of using the Main Street America Four Points Approach to revitalize our Downtown. The DTOT committee formed in December of 2021 and spent the next couple of years working to built the framework that would successfully launch them toward becoming an official Maine Street Affiliate Community on February 1, 2024.
