City of Munford Downtown Improvement (DIG) Grant
The Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development (TNECD) awarded the City of Munford a Downtown Improvement (DIG) Grant of $350,000. Through the application process, the Munford Downtown Development Commission (MDDC) demonstrated both a need for continued Downtown improvement and the ability to execute projects to reach that goal. That includes a city-funded 25% match.
The City of Munford pitched three projects to fund with the DIG Grant:
1. A distributed Downtown sound system linked to Veterans Plaza. Veterans Plaza is Munford’s brand-new, premiere outdoor location for events such as concerts and movie nights. Distributed audio would provide more locations for visitors to be part of the experience.
2. Canopy string lighting to connect Veterans Plaza with more of Downtown and increase safety and visibility.
3. Creating a space on Church Street closed to vehicle traffic and open to the community as a small gathering space.
In addition, a minimum of 50% of the $350,000 grant funding must be used for façade improvement projects. The City of Munford and MDDC have a list of Downtown businesses that have expressed interest in this aspect of the grant.
“I would like to thank the MDDC for all of their hard work in making this come to pass,” said Munford Mayor Dwayne Cole. “This is one more step toward making Munford a destination place, a fun place of activities. We are excited.”
