Your Voice Matters - Notice of Hearing on Transfer of Funds out of Tourism Marketing Promotion Fund
On Thursday, February 19, 2026 at 1:30pm, a hearing is scheduled to review the portion of LD 2212, the Supplemental State Budget, that would direct the transfer of $700,000 in funds from the Tourism Marketing Promotion Fund to the Municipal Investment Fund.
Maine Tourism Association is leading the charge to oppose this transfer, which will be the first time that monies allocated for tourism marketing promotion will be transferred to another fund. Also as noted on Page 1 of the attached schedule, there will not be a public hearing on the Part A initiatives of the Supplemental State Budget, which includes additional funding for the Tourism Marketing Promotion Fund. An additional $615,008 for Fiscal Year 2026 (current year) and $636,532 in Fiscal Year 2027 (starting July 1, 2026) will be put into the fund. This additional funding is “to align allocations with projected expenditures and available resources”, which is a nice way of saying that more tax revenue was collected than forecast, so the fund is owed that money by statute.
You're are welcome share your thoughts and testify in person at the hearing in Augusta. You can also register to testify on Zoom or send in written testimony. Full information about in-person, Zoom, or written testimony can be found on Page 1 of the attached schedule.
