Eliot Earns Recognition as Safest in Maine in 2026

Eliot Maine Water Views

There’s something worth celebrating across the York Region this year!

In the latest Safest Cities in Every State 2026 rankings, done by Safewise, three of our communities earned recognition as the safest places in Maine.

Eliot took the #1 spot for safest in the state of Maine, with two fellow regional towns South Berwick (#8) and York (#10) also included in the list. Set along the Piscataqua River, the town offers a mix of natural beauty and everyday livability—quiet roads, open landscapes, and a strong sense of connection among neighbors.

That’s a big part of what makes recognition like this feel so fitting. Safety in Eliot isn’t something new—it’s something that’s been built over time through consistency, care, and pride in place. For those who live here, this recognition feels well-earned. And for those thinking about visiting or putting down roots, it’s a pretty great reminder of what you’ll find when you get here.

South Berwick and York also earned spots on the list, reinforcing what many of us already know: the York Region is made up of communities that value connection, safety, and quality of life.
