CountyCommons exists for a simple reason: Yamhill County is full of great local businesses, organizations, and events, but the information is scattered, and discovery isn’t always easy. We’re building one shared place where residents and visitors can find what’s local, what’s happening, and where to go—across all our towns.
We’re not trying to be “another platform.” Think of CountyCommons as a practical tool for community life: a local directory, an events hub, and simple ways to explore the county. Our goal is straightforward, help people show up more often, try new places, and keep support local.
CountyCommons was founded by Josh Smith and Wes Smith, son and father, with deep roots in McMinnville. Josh went to middle and high school here and returned to the only place he truly considers home. Wes served as a pastor at The Church on the Hill in the 80’s and 90’s and has come back to invest in the community that shaped his ministry. We’re building CountyCommons because this county has given us a lot and we want to give something useful back.
Yamhill County
CountyCommons started with a simple observation: in a place like Yamhill County, the best parts of the community aren’t always easy to find. Events are spread across flyers and Facebook posts, business info is scattered or outdated, and “what should we do this weekend?” turns into a bunch of tabs and guesswork. Meanwhile, the people who make the county feel like home—local shops, restaurants, trades, wineries, nonprofits, churches are here… but not always visible when it matters.
So we decided to build one shared place for the whole county, a modern “commons.” CountyCommons is a local-only directory and events hub designed to make it easier for residents and visitors to discover what’s happening and who’s nearby. We’re loading every business we can find and inviting owners to claim and update their information, not because we’re trying to build another platform, but because the county needs a central spot that’s actually useful.
And we’re adding some fun along the way. CountyCommons Trails turns discovery into a reason to get out and explore—visit new places, support local businesses, and see more of what our towns have to offer. At the core, it’s straightforward: help our community get connected, keep attention local, and make it easier for people to choose Yamhill County, on purpose.
