City of Statesville Proclaims October 2026 as Hindu Heritage Month and November 8, 2026 as Diwali Day

WHEREAS, Hinduism is a diverse and longstanding spiritual tradition with a rich cultural heritage that has influenced generations through its teachings, traditions, celebrations, and values; and

WHEREAS, Hindu Heritage Month provides an opportunity to recognize the history, culture, and traditions of Hindu communities and to acknowledge the many contributions of Hindu Americans to communities throughout our nation; and

WHEREAS, the City of Statesville recognizes that learning about and celebrating the heritage of our neighbors helps promote understanding, respect, and a stronger sense of community; and

WHEREAS, Diwali, often known as the Festival of Lights, is an important celebration observed by millions of people around the world and is a time for families and communities to gather in celebration, reflection, hope, and renewal; and

WHEREAS, Diwali traditions emphasize the triumph of light over darkness and serve as an opportunity to celebrate the values of peace, knowledge, compassion, and the renewal of relationships; and

WHEREAS, the City of Statesville is proud to recognize the Hindu community and celebrate the cultural heritage and traditions that add to the diversity and vitality of our community. 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, J. DOUGLAS HENDRIX, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF STATESVILLE, do hereby proclaim October 2026 as Hindu Heritage Month and November 8, 2026, as Diwali Day in the City of Statesville, and encourage all residents to recognize, appreciate, and celebrate the rich heritage, culture, traditions, and contributions of the Hindu community.
