Description

This sequel to the Book Woman of Troublesome Creek tells the story of sixteen-year-old Honey Lovett, daughter of the blue-skinned packhorse librarian, Cussy Mary Carter and Jackson Lovett. After her parents are arrested under Kentucky’s miscegenation laws that ban interracial marriage, Honey takes over her mother’s former WPA route, riding her mule through treacherous Appalachian mountain trails to deliver books to isolated communities. If Honey wants to bring the freedom books provide to the families who need it most, she’s going to fight for her place in a racist and sexist society, and along the way, learn that the extraordinary women who run the hills and hollers can make all the difference in the world.
