K-State Research and Extension Wildcat District has a full schedule of educational programs and hands-on learning opportunities planned for May. From livestock management and crop production to wellness and entrepreneurship, there are several ways area residents and producers can connect, learn, and grow this month. 🌱
The month begins with the First Friday E-Call on May 1 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., focusing on Connecting Entrepreneurial Communities. This virtual session is ideal for anyone interested in strengthening local business ecosystems. Register here: https://ksre-learn.com/ecall
On May 5, Cow Camp – Eastern will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Southeast Research and Extension Center near Parsons. Designed especially for women involved in the cattle industry, this program offers practical guidance and encouragement for leadership and success in livestock operations. 🐄
Homeowners and producers can attend the Nuisance Wildlife Control for Your Home, Farm, and Garden workshop on May 9 at 9:00 a.m. This demonstration event with Extension Specialist Drew Ricketts will include practical strategies for managing wildlife challenges. Call 620-784-5337 to register.
On May 19, producers are invited to the Spring Crops Field Day from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., featuring expert presentations on intercropping, alfalfa fertility, grain bin conditioning, and wheat variety plot tours. Later that week, the Small Ruminant Parasites Management Webinar takes place May 21 at noon. Dr. Kelsey Bentley will share best practices for parasite control in sheep and goats. Participants can register online for the Zoom link.
Also beginning in May is Stay Strong, Stay Healthy, an eight-week strength training program for older adults starting May 20 at the W.A. Rankin Memorial Library in Neodesha. Classes meet twice weekly and are free thanks to support from the Area Agency on Aging and a local sponsor. 💪
