Main Street Steamboat Named a 2026 Great American Main Street Award Semifinalist

Celebrating a National Honor Rooted in Community

Main Street Steamboat Springs has been named one of only eight semifinalists for the 2026 Great American Main Street Award (GAMSA)—a prestigious national recognition celebrating excellence in preservation-based downtown revitalization.

This honor places Steamboat Springs among the top Main Street programs in the country and reflects years of collaboration, volunteerism, and community-driven transformation.

“Through innovation and determination, these programs exemplify the unwavering dedication of Main Streets across the country to building resilient and revitalized communities,” said Erin Barnes, President & CEO, Main Street America

 A Recognition Shared by the Entire Community

Each year, a national jury of experts in community development and historic preservation reviews applications from across the country. After thoughtful deliberation, they selected eight semifinalists that demonstrate exemplary use of the Main Street Approach™.

Executive Director Lisa Popovich shared:

“It is truly an honor to be recognized this way… it is really due to the efforts of so many other groups and individuals that have made this honor possible.”

Board President JJ Johnson added:

“This recognition affirms the often-unrecognized work of the staff and volunteers whose efforts continue to enhance the Steamboat experience for both residents and visitors.”

Why This Matters

Since 1995, only 112 communities nationwide have received the Great American Main Street Award. Out of more than 1,600 Main Street programs, being named a semifinalist places Steamboat Springs in the top tier of downtown revitalization efforts.

Collectively, the 2026 semifinalists have:

• Generated over $329 million in local reinvestment
• Helped open 650+ new businesses
• Supported 3,630+ new jobs
• Catalyzed the rehabilitation of 1,942 historic buildings
• Leveraged 241,946 volunteer hours

These accomplishments reflect the power of community-driven work—and Steamboat Springs is proud to be part of that story.

Looking Ahead

The winners of the 2026 Great American Main Street Award will be announced on April 13, 2026, during the Main Street Now Conference in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Three semifinalists will be selected for this coveted honor.

Regardless of the outcome, this recognition is a milestone worth celebrating.
