Tradition Meets Innovation: SSFR Invites the Community to a Push In Ceremony

Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue is inviting the community to take part in a beloved fire‑service tradition as they welcome two essential pieces of apparatus into service: a 2023 Rosenbauer Commander Type I Engine and the newly refurbished Ladder Truck 62.

 The department will host a Push‑In Ceremony on Tuesday, June 30 at 11 am at Station 1, and everyone is encouraged to stop by, meet the crew, and help officially “push” the vehicles into the bay.

 “This ceremony celebrates the community’s investment in public safety and the firefighters who rely on these vehicles to protect lives and property across our service area,” said Fire Chief Chuck Cerasoli.

A Modern Engine Ready for Today’s Emergencies

The new Rosenbauer Commander Type I Engine brings advanced safety systems, improved visibility, modern pumping technology, and ergonomic design to SSFR’s frontline response. It’s equipped for structure fires, vehicle crashes, wildland‑urban interface incidents, and medical emergencies—ensuring crews have the tools they need to respond quickly and effectively.

Crews have already been training on the new engine and outfitting it with mission‑critical equipment to ensure it’s ready for service on day one.

Ladder Truck 62 Returns Better Than Ever

After an extensive refurbishment, Ladder Truck 62 is back in action with upgraded systems and an extended operational lifespan. The improvements ensure reliable aerial firefighting and technical rescue capability for years to come.

Honoring a Time Honored Tradition

The Push‑In Ceremony dates back to the era of horse‑drawn fire engines, when firefighters had to manually push apparatus into the station because horses couldn’t back into tight bays. Today, departments across the country continue the tradition as a symbolic welcome of new equipment into service—and Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue is excited to share that experience with the community.
