New Bike Racks Support a More Walkable, Bike‑Friendly Downtown

Downtown Steamboat Springs is getting a lot more bike‑friendly this summer. Main Street Steamboat, with support from a Colorado Main Street Mini-Grant and the AARP Foundation, has installed 36 new bike racks along 6th Street between Yampa Street and Lincoln Avenue. If you’ve walked past the BMO Bank retaining wall recently, you may have already spotted them.

This project is a true community collaboration. A partnership with BMO Bank made the location possible, and they welcomed the opportunity to support increased bike access downtown. Drew Pickle and his team in the City of Steamboat Springs Parks & Recreation Department are assembling, installing, and managing the racks for the season.

The timing couldn’t be better. With summer in full swing and the Main Street Steamboat Farmers Market drawing thousands of residents and visitors each weekend, these racks give cyclists a convenient place to park before strolling through the market or exploring downtown businesses. More bike parking means fewer cars circling for spots, easier access for shoppers, and a more relaxed, walkable downtown experience.

These bike racks are a simple but meaningful improvement to our downtown,” says Lisa Popovich, Executive Director of Main Street Steamboat. “They make it easier for residents and visitors to enjoy Steamboat by bike, reduce congestion, and support a more vibrant, walkable community. We’re grateful to Colorado Main Street, the AARP Foundation, BMO Bank, and the City’s Parks & Recreation team for helping bring this project to life.”

The racks will remain in place throughout the summer, supporting peak visitation and encouraging more people to choose active transportation when visiting downtown.

We’re excited to continue investing in projects that make Steamboat Springs welcoming, accessible, and enjoyable for everyone. See you downtown — and don’t forget your bike.
