A Spicy Success: Celebrating the 2026 Downtown Chili Challenge Winners

Steamboat Springs brought the heat and the heart at this year’s Downtown Chili Challenge, held during the final Farmers Market of the season. With perfect fall weather, a packed crowd, and some of the best chili, salsa, and cornbread our community has ever tasted, the event was a joyful reminder of what makes downtown so special.

This year’s Challenge was proudly sponsored by FM Light & Sons, whose long‑standing support of Main Street Steamboat helps keep beloved traditions like this thriving. We are deeply grateful for their partnership, and for every cook, restaurant, volunteer, and taster who made the day unforgettable.

2026 Chili Challenge Winners

Best Chili – $500 Prize

Q Live Crew BBQ Slow & Low Smoked Brisket Chili. Selected by our panel of judges, led by Lee Schoeneman and including Chef Maureen Toteman, Scott Flowers, and Chef Brian Bailey of E3 Restaurant, this rich, smoky brisket chili earned top honors for its depth of flavor and standout execution.

People’s Choice Chili – $500 Prize

The Laundry Kitchen & Cocktails Chunky Pork Green Chili: Chosen directly by the community through individual votes, this hearty green chili captured the public’s enthusiasm with its bold flavor and perfect balance.

Salsa & Cornbread Champions – $100 Prizes Each

Best Salsa

Del Mezcal Tacos and Margaritas Red Salsa: Bright, bold, and beautifully layered, this salsa rose to the top in a competitive field.

Best Cornbread

The Laundry Kitchen & Cocktails Creamed Cornbread: Moist, sweet, and perfectly textured, this cornbread was a clear standout.

Special Awards

Team Spirit Award: Sheryl Jones, recognized for bringing contagious enthusiasm, creativity, and community energy.

Outside the Pot Award: Sunpies Bistro: Honored for thinking beyond their traditional menu and delivering something uniquely memorable.
