Building a Better Boyertown (BaBB) originated as a grassroots effort to revitalize the small, historic town of Boyertown, Pennsylvania. The organization was officially founded in the early 2000s as a response to economic and cultural challenges that many small towns across America were facing. As local industries declined and modern developments shifted focus away from small-town centers, Boyertown's downtown area began to lose its vibrancy. Concerned citizens and local business owners came together, determined to breathe new life into their community while preserving its unique character and history.
The organization gained traction through its affiliation with the Pennsylvania Downtown Center and the National Main Street Program, which provided resources and strategies for economic and community revitalization. BBB embraced a four-point approach to rebuilding the town: economic development, design, promotion, and organization. By combining these elements, they sought to restore Boyertown's charm, strengthen local businesses, and create a thriving, walkable downtown.
By fostering partnerships with local businesses, civic organizations, and residents, Building a Better Boyertown transformed from a small group of volunteers into a driving force for sustainable growth and community pride. Today, BaBB continues to honor its roots while looking toward the future, creating opportunities for engagement and ensuring Boyertown remains a vibrant place to live, work, and visit.
