Honoring Our Namesake: Edward Gillette Statue Coming Soon to Downtown

Thanks to the dedicated fundraising efforts of the Gillette Evening Rotary, support from grant funding, the vision and leadership of the Gillette Main Street Board, and the incredible talent of artist Tom Ford, Downtown Gillette will soon be home to a beautiful new tribute to our city’s namesake—Edward Gillette.

Edward Gillette, a surveyor for the Burlington & Missouri River Railroad, played a pivotal role in the founding of our community, helping to plot the townsite that would eventually become the City of Gillette. This upcoming statue will serve as a lasting reminder of those early beginnings and the spirit of growth and determination that continues to define our community today.

Artist Tom Ford has truly pulled out all the stops in bringing this piece to life. His craftsmanship and attention to detail promise to make the statue not only a stunning work of art, but also a meaningful landmark that will invite both residents and visitors to pause, reflect, and connect with Gillette’s history.

This project is a wonderful example of what can be accomplished when community organizations come together with a shared vision. The Gillette Evening Rotary’s commitment to fundraising, combined with grant support and the foresight of the Gillette Main Street Board, has helped turn this idea into a reality that will soon be enjoyed for generations to come.

The statue is expected to be unveiled—hopefully by the Fourth of July—adding even more significance to the celebration of community and heritage. Once installed in the heart of Downtown, it will contribute to the character and storytelling of our Main Street, creating yet another reason to explore, learn, and take pride in our community.
