History

Gillette, Wyoming proudly stands at the center of Campbell County—the Energy Capital of the Nation. For decades, this region has fueled homes, industries, and economies across the country. But here in the heart of downtown, another kind of energy has been quietly transforming our community—the grit, passion, and purpose of the people who call Gillette home.

It all began with a coalition of downtown business owners, property owners, and community members who came together in the early on to form Historic Gillette Alive. They saw the potential in our historic downtown not just as a business district, but as a gathering place—a cultural and economic anchor powered by people.

Their work was the spark that ignited something bigger. Seeking tools, structure, and partnership, the group aligned with the Wyoming Main Street Program and Main Street America, adopting the Four-Point Approach™ focused on Design, Economic Vitality, Organization, and Promotion. From this evolution, Gillette Main Street was born.

Where the county provides the literal energy that powers the nation, Gillette Main Street channels the energy of our people—the small business owners, volunteers, artists, families, and leaders who pour their heart into making downtown a vibrant place to live, work, and celebrate.

Today, our work continues to be fueled by that people power. Whether it’s restoring historic storefronts, hosting community events, supporting local entrepreneurs, or shaping the future of downtown, Gillette Main Street is both a tribute to our heritage and a testament to our people’s vision.
