Class Description: This acrylic painting class is designed so that the student will better understand Abstract Art (art that is not intended to represent a specific object) and to engage the painter to paint in a playful and experiental approach. Students will be making Abstract Art by using: colors, shapes, lines, and textures to communicate ideas, moods, or pure visual design. You will enjoy the creative freedom to not worry about painting to recreate an image in the 'real world'. It is a two class series and the material you learn in both classes will give you a wealth of ways to approach painting. There will be both demos and hands on experiences which focus on abstract imagery methods.
Class ONE: the Focus of this class is to learn how to start a painting and work on a blank paper, then to let go of trying to be perfect and work with your own unique creative flow of mark making. You will work with layers of paint, using a variety of acrylic paints and gel mediums. You will create layers with choices that include: wet materials such as markers, acrylic paints, and dry materials that may include graphite, chalk, and torn paper. You will learn that there is "No Wrong or Right Way" to make abstract images.
Class TWO: In this class experiementation continues when you experience using a wide variety of tools such as: brayers, cardboard, toothbrushes, masking tape, bubble wrap, palette knives, feathers, and straws. You will actully build tools in class and then be able to take them home to use in your own indepedent paintings. There will be demos, workhop activities, ,and the opportunity to learn more by the sharing of student's work.
