Description

You can experience the first days of the new year with live music, good food, and genuine Appalachian hospitality during Pickin’ & Grinnin’ on Main, happening January 3 at 6:00 PM at 113 Main Street.

This evening is more than a music night. It’s a celebration of local talent, small-town connection, and new energy in the heart of downtown.

Hosted by Banjos Home & Labor Co. and Rust & Wildflowers Co., the event highlights two new locally owned businesses that have chosen Main Street in Beattyville as their new home. Their investment reflects a growing momentum downtown while staying rooted in the people and traditions that make Beattyville special.

One of those roots runs deep through the music. Colbie Baker, owner of Banjos Home & Labor Co., is well known in the local music scene as a banjo player with the Sturgeon Creek Band, performing alongside Michael Johnson and Darren Steel. His passion for bluegrass and craftsmanship carries beyond the stage. Colbie will be offering banjo and guitar lessons as well as home and labor services, all based right here in Beattyville.

For visitors staying in nearby cabins, campgrounds, or RV parks, Pickin’ & Grinnin’ on Main offers a chance to experience authentic bluegrass music in a true small-town setting. If you’re spending the weekend in the Red River Gorge region or along the Kentucky River and want to step off the beaten path for a night, downtown Beattyville is just a short drive away—and well worth it.

The evening includes live picking, a classic $8 soupbean dinner with sauerkraut, weiners, and cornbread, plus a 50/50 drawing featuring gift certificates to both sponsoring businesses. Admission is $6, and children 12 and under are free, making it a relaxed, family-friendly way to spend a winter evening.

Pickin’ & Grinnin’ on Main reflects what makes the local community special special—local music played by local people, neighbors gathering downtown, and visitors welcomed like old friends.

Come hungry. Stay awhile. And enjoy a night of real bluegrass on Main Street in Beattyville/Lee County, KY.
