Why Levitt Matters: A First Month Reflection
Four weeks into the 2026 Levitt AMP Batesville Music Series, I've found myself reflecting on what makes this program so special.
Yes, it's about community.
Yes, it's about gathering downtown.
Yes, it's about supporting local businesses and creating quality of life experiences.
But it's also about the music.
It's about access to live music that many communities our size simply don't have.
It's about introducing children and adults alike to new genres, new cultures, and new artists they may have never experienced otherwise.
It's about curiosity.
It's about watching someone stop in their tracks because they just heard a sound they've never heard before.
It's about seeing a child dance to Latin music one week, Americana the next, and soul music the week after that.
It's about expanding horizons while creating memories.
Over the last four weeks, more than 3,000 people have gathered in Downtown Batesville to experience artists from a variety of backgrounds, genres, and cultures. Together, we've shared songs, stories, dances, conversations, and moments that simply wouldn't have happened without the power of live music.
Last week's MexiCuba performance may be one of my favorite examples so far.
When weather forced us indoors, our community didn't see a rainout. They saw an opportunity to keep the music going. The room filled with energy, dancing, laughter, and an appreciation for a style of music that many may have never experienced live before.
That night reminded me that music has a unique ability to bring people together while also introducing us to something new.
And that's the magic of Levitt.
It's not just entertainment.
It's education.
It's cultural exchange.
It's community building.
It's inspiration.
It's quality of life.
As we celebrate the first month of the season, I'm incredibly grateful to our Presenting Sponsors, First Community Bank and Bad Boy Mowers, whose commitment to our community helps make these experiences possible and accessible to everyone.
We still have six weeks of incredible music ahead of us, and if the first four weeks are any indication, Downtown Batesville is in for a memorable summer.
See you Thursday.
