Kansas Announces $1.5 Million for New Round of HEAL Grants
The Kansas Department of Commerce has announced that $1.5 million is available in the seventh round of Historic Economic Asset Lifeline (HEAL) grants. The program helps communities close funding gaps in projects to revitalize vacant and underutilized downtown buildings.
HEAL projects may create space for new or expanding businesses, housing, arts and culture, civic engagement, childcare, or entrepreneurial activities.
To be considered, projects must show their potential to contribute to the local economy and demonstrate that the space will be occupied upon completion. Applications must include proof of a 1:1 match from the building owner.
Applications opened September 21 and close November 20, 2026, at 5:00 PM. Grant recipients are expected to be announced in January 2027. Communities that received HEAL grants in 2025 are not eligible for this round.
A virtual program webinar will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, September 25. Registration is required. The Office of Rural Prosperity will also hold virtual office hours at 11:00 AM each Monday from September 28 through November 16.
Visit the Kansas Commerce HEAL page for complete program information and the online application. For assistance with a Russell County project or application, contact the Russell County Economic Development & Convention and Visitors Bureau office.
