Don't Forget to Incorporate "Ego Bait" in Your Content to Reach More People

Last Updated 12/16/2021Posted in Marketing Fundamentals, Social Media Marketing

Creating marketing content for local businesses can be much easier than you likely think and we're constantly adding new marketing and content plans for local industries. But content alone isn't enough.

Most local businesses simply don't have the audience (followers on social, subscribers on email, and pure website traffic) to deliver their content to their target customer.

A couple weeks ago we talked about a key mistake to avoid on Facebook and a tip about tagging people but we wanted to revisit the subject.

In an interview between Dave Reimherr and Andy Crestodina, Andy succinctly said,

It's not about the best content, it's about the best-promoted content... The greatest content, none of us have ever seen it because it was not well promoted.

He then went on to talk about incorporating references to people, and companies, in your content through quoting or referencing them then alerting them to that fact on social media so that they are enticed to share it with their audience.

The name of this technique, he shares, is "Ego Bait".

You can catch the full interview starting with their discussion about the importance of promoting content here.
