Founded in 2024Covington Economic Development Corporation was developed in 2003, with community and economic development the focus for nearly 20 years, helping recruit restaurants and retail businesses to the area. In 2018, the focus somewhat shifted when Covington became a Tennessee Downtowns community. Already boasting a beautiful historic court square full of retail establishments, CEDC began to narrow its focus to marketing the Historic Covington Downtown area as the perfect place to shop and dine. In 2024, CEDC became the governing body of the 47th Tennessee Main Street program. Accordingly, Covington Main Street became accredited with Main Street America by the end of 2024, a great accomplishment for a first-year program. For more than 40 years, Main Street America has helped to build economic power in downtowns and neighborhood commercial districts through their signature Main Street Approach™ framework. Through strategic collaborations with generous partners, Main Street programs, like Covington Main Street, and small business owners have access to resources, grants, educational opportunities, and more.
