Welcome to Byhalia: Rooted in history. Rising together.
Nestled among rolling hills and fertile land, Byhalia, Mississippi, is a town shaped by resilience, community, and quiet strength. Long before its founding in 1838, this land was home to the Chickasaw people, whose presence still echoes in the town’s name — derived from a word meaning “White Oak.”
Established at a historic crossroads, Byhalia grew as a place of trade, faith, and family. Though wars, fires, and economic shifts tested the town, its people endured — rebuilding, reconnecting, and moving forward together. The arrival of the railroad in the late 1800s renewed opportunity, leaving behind the historic downtown buildings that still define Byhalia’s character today.
Designated a National Historic District in 1992, Byhalia honors its past while looking ahead with purpose. This is a place where heritage matters, neighbors look out for one another, and progress is measured not by speed, but by care.
Byhalia is more than a place on the map — it’s a community, rooted and rising.
