Description

Step behind the scenes of real archeological field work happening right here in Russell County during the 2026 Kansas Archeology Training Program Field School!

Community members will have the opportunity to tour the archeology lab, learn how recovered artifacts are processed, and travel to active field work locations where surveys and excavations are actively taking place. This is a unique chance to see history uncovered firsthand alongside the Kansas Historical Society, Kansas Anthropological Association, and KATP field school participants.

Tours will take place Wednesday, June 10 and Saturday, June 13 at 2:00 PM beginning at Ruppenthal Middle School located at 400 N. Elm St. in Russell.

Please note that field locations are in remote areas with low maintenance roads. Carpooling is encouraged.

Learn more about this year’s field school here or reach out to Paige Bump, Project and outreach Archeologist, at kshs.katp@ks.gov or 785-272-8681 ext. 267.
