Founded in 2015In the Fall of 2014, over fifty residents of Tazewell gathered to have a conversation about the revitalization of the Main Street corridor of Tazewell, Virginia (“Main Street”). From that initial meeting, the group formed this Corporation. The group raised funds to acquire an initial architectural study of Main Street and launched the effort to revitalize Main Street. In recognition of all of those individuals who helped launch this effort, these Bylaws create the position of Founding Director in acknowledgment of the effort and persistence of the sparkplug that led to our founding, Irma Mitchell. The Corporation exists to promote Main Street; to stimulate the Main Street business district; to continue the revitalization of Main Street through: Organization - encouraging cooperation and building leadership in the business community; Promotion - creating a positive image for Main Street by promoting the downtown as an exciting place to live, shop, and invest; Design - improving the appearance of the downtown; and to receive, administer and distribute funds in connection with any activities related to the above purposes; provided, however, that the Corporation shall only engage in activities that are in the purview of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1954 or corresponding sections of any prior or future law. No part of the net earnings of the Corporation shall inure to the benefit of any of its members or any other individual; and the Corporation shall not participate in, or intervene in, any political campaign on behalf of any candidate for public office.
