While Jewish Mindfulness Meditation is a spiritual practice, it is not a service.

Mindfulness Meditation helps us to develop awareness without judgment by paying attention to how our thoughts and emotional states can effect our interactions and responses to everyday stimuli and others. The practice allows us to build greater acceptance and compassion with whatever we encounter in our day. Many have found a regular meditation practice has had a transformative effect on their lives and enjoy the support that comes with practicing in a group setting. While some of the practices stem from Buddhist teachings, Jewish Mindfulness Meditation adds the element of Divinity and the practice is referenced in many of the writings by our Hasidic teachers including the Ba’al Shem Tov.

Each week I begin with a short teaching drawing on Jewish wisdom through the weekly parsha, the time of year in the Jewish calendar or other Jewish sources, followed by a 30 minute sit which may include some guidance. The hour will end with 10-15 minutes of optional sharing. Those with and without a regular meditation practice are welcome. Start your day by sitting together in community to carry you forward with a sense of wakeful presence.
